About the position
The police are intensifying the fight against criminal networks and the South-East Police District is strengthening its efforts with two positions at the Intelligence Section, Acquisition Section.
In the South-East Police District, we have a vacancy for a special investigator with a function as a specialist in acquisition from open sources (OSINT operator). The position is currently located at FEE, Intelligence Section, Acquisition Section, with ft. location at the police station in Skien, Tønsberg or Drammen, by agreement with the employer.
About the position:
We are looking for someone who has the expertise and commitment to extracting requested information from various open sources, especially from social media and the internet in general. You must have the expertise to operate securely and covertly on the internet. You must be able to acquire and apply intelligence expertise in collection and analysis work if you do not already have it. You must be curious, creative, analytical and solution-oriented. You must be interested in following trends and developments, approaches and security holes. You must enjoy method development and pioneering activities.
We also have a vacancy in a combination role as an OSINT operator and single-source analyst.
Those hired will work closely with other acquisition sensors and multi-source analysts in the section. This position will be a method developer in the district and together create a professional environment. It is an advantage to have expertise in programming. A similar position is also advertised for a police superintendent.
There are requirements for conscious handling of information resources, including sources of error and pitfalls, and that the applicant has awareness and strategies for counteracting cognitive bias. High demands will be placed on both pace, notoriety and quality of the work. The person in question must be able to deliver ongoing decision support, but also more comprehensive products in larger deliveries.
Job duties
OSINT operator:
- Obtain information from open sources, including social media and the internet in general
- Verify, quality assure, process, analyze and report in, among other things, reports and intelligence registers
- Produce reports, presentations and visualization of timely situational pictures
- Participate in project work in communication with internal and external acquisition disciplines, as well as some national meeting activities
- Contribute to competence development within the field
- Contribute to a good working environment and desired culture
- Assist with other relevant tasks as assigned by immediate superior
Single source analysis tasks:
- The single-source analyst will have production responsibility for single-source analyses from acquisition capacities in the district. This involves managing information needs, systematizing and structuring information within and outside of cases, and following up on the needs of the multi-source analyst.
Qualifications
Required skills:
- Higher education at minimum bachelor's level, for example in intelligence, police science, journalism, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity or social sciences.
Particularly relevant experience can replace lack of education - Experience with deep mining of information from open sources
- Documented expertise in the use of advanced data/analysis tools and in searching/analyzing information from the internet
- Must be able to be cleared for Secret
- Good language skills, written and oral, in Norwegian and English
Desired competence:
- Good understanding of police intelligence doctrine
- Work experience and education/courses in the use of open sources, intelligence, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, investigative activities, investigation or investigation
- Experience in intelligence production
- Language proficiency
You must have impeccable character and be fit for service in the police and a police certificate (exhaustive and extended) must be obtained upon possible employment, cf. the Police Act, Section 18 and the Police Register Act, Section 41.
