Summary


The Centre for Information Resilience is recruiting for a Senior Open-Source Investigator fluent in English to carry out investigations into war crimes and other human rights abuses in Ukraine. This is a full-time position that can be conducted remotely. We accept applications from researchers based in any country.

Role’s responsibilities


As a Senior Open-Source Investigator, you will be leading and conducting, alongside the Eyes on Russia team, high-quality investigations into crimes and abuses committed in the context of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.


The investigations will vary in topic and scope. The complexity of the cases in a fast-paced environment will require a creative approach to OSINT investigations, developing new frameworks and working alongside a highly experienced team to solve the most complex cases.


Requirements


Required qualifications and skills

  • Proven experience conducting open-source investigations, applying a wide range of open-source techniques and methodologies.
  • Expert in geospatial analysis, including geolocation, chrono location and satellite imagery analysis.
  • Expertise in social media research techniques.
  • Capacity to write short- and long-form reports using concise, clear and accurate language.
  • Flexibility and capacity to adapt to fast-paced changing, and sometimes high-pressure, environments.
  • Proactivity and willingness to work, learn from, and collaborate with members of the Eyes on Russia team and the wider CIR.


Non essential valued experience

  • Experience in investigating war crimes and/or other human rights violations committed in Ukraine or other jurisdictions.
  • Languages: Ukrainian or Russian is valuable.
  • Deep knowledge of Russian and Ukrainian social media and country-specific datasets.
  • Proficient management of Power Point or other presentation software (e.g. Canva).
  • Experience in a specific skill such as: munitions analysis, business/ financial investigations, crime scene analysis or tools such a QGIS
  • Experience in delivering capacity building sessions to a wide range of audiences of different levels of proficiency.


Working Arrangements:

This is a full-time role which can be worked flexibly. The tasking is expected to be entirely remotely based, although some in-person events with international travel are planned which the role holder would be expected to attend.
