OSINT Research Analyst - (Security and Defence - Middle East) - 12 month contract

Central London

Up to £33,000 p.a. (depending on experience)

Our client is an independent research and insights consultancy, operating in the fascinating world of international development, researching and investigating fragile states., opinion on the ground and how current affairs and geo politics affect every-day people and how governments communicate with them.

We seek proactive, highly analytical individuals to help us serve the growing portfolio of clients. This is a superb opportunity for ambitious detailed-oriented people with strong interests in research in the Middle East with some experience in preparing and delivering information and analytical research products, via mixed methods (quantitative opinion polling, qualitative tools) and project management.

This position offers the opportunity to work in the ME Business Unit, on a high-growth project. The project integrates multiple data streams including opinion research, media monitoring, open-source insights and qualitative research. The work covers some of the most important contemporary issues (security, democracy, development, defense etc.); these roles will suit people with interests in international politics and backgrounds in research.

You will already have some experience in an OSINT role and have some experience of using command line tools . Candidates must be resident in the UK.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparation, data analysis, drafting, dissemination and follow-up of research products on developments across the countries of focus.
  • Triangulation of findings from multiple research methods, including quantitative opinion polling, media monitoring and social listening, open-source insights, key informant interviews, satellite imagery, among others.
  • Coordinating with the Senior Research Analyst and Assessment Manager to deliver high quality reports.
  • Proactively identify gaps in knowledge, design new approaches to tackle these information gaps, and engage with a range of external organisations (suppliers and clients).
  • Provide data analysis on primary and/or secondary data, ensuring that meaningful techniques are used to analyse the data collected; and report writing.
  • Keeping abreast of relevant news in regions of study.

We will be looking for Research Analyst candidates who possess the following types of experience:

  • High comfort level with quantitative data (using Excel/SPSS) and excellent writing skills are necessary.
  • Additional data analysis tools and software experienced (PowerBi, Media Monitoring tools, OSINT skills) are a plus.
  • At least 1 year of research experience in an international setting.
  • Preference given to candidates with Assessment, M&E, Analysis background
  • General knowledge of the politics, economics, and societies of the Middle East
  • Foreign language fluency in Arabic is desirable but not essential
