We are looking for a talented and experienced OSINT Editor to join an independent media organization. This position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to enriching editorial content that is fact-checking, promoting accountability, and delivering high-value investigations.

Eligibility for this role requires fluency in both Arabic and English, a strong understanding of investigative journalism and open source investigations methodologies, and experience leading OSINT projects and collaborating with editorial teams in a fast-paced work environment.

Familiarity with the integration of OSINT tools and techniques into the investigative workflow, along with adherence to ethical and secure practices, is essential to the success of this role.

Job Role Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is to create a knowledge hub for all things open source investigations, by: Leading editorial vision and initiatives to enhance the organization’s OSINT capabilities. Building cumulative knowledge across the team, supporting the editorial team’s efforts to produce investigative stories and fact-checking using open source, and ensuring the quality of those stories – as well as producing investigations that rely on OSINT tools and techniques separately.

Main responsibilities

Vision and Strategic Development

  • Formulate and implement the editorial vision for open source investigations and related initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategy and priorities.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve OSINT strategy to address emerging challenges and capitalize on opportunities in this area.


Knowledge Management and Capacity Building

  • Develop and implement training programs to provide journalists and staff with the skills necessary for investigative work requirements.
  • Adopting new tools and methods to improve investigative and fact-checking capabilities and fostering innovation in open source methodologies.


OSINT Content Production

  • Produce high quality OSINT investigations in line with annual editorial plans and organisational priorities.
  • Ensuring that all OSINT content maintains the highest standards of accuracy, ethics and editorial excellence.


Support and coordination

  • Collaborate with journalist teams and provide expert OSINT support to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Proactively contribute to editorial planning by identifying opportunities where OSINT can improve its investigative output and fact-checking efforts.


Administrative responsibilities

  • Adhere to the organization's cybersecurity policies, and actively contribute to maintaining secure operations and protecting sensitive information.


Qualifications and skills

  • Language:  Fluency in Arabic and English, with a deep understanding of the cultural nuances of the Middle East region.
  • Experience:  Extensive experience as an open source investigative journalist and previous experience in leadership roles.
  • Knowledge:  A comprehensive understanding of investigative journalism processes and ethical considerations.
  • Technical skills:
  • In-depth understanding of OSINT concepts, tools and methodologies.
  • Master advanced search techniques across various internet platforms.
  • Experience in OSINT tools such as: geolocation techniques and tools, social network analysis, motion tracking tools, facial recognition and people tracking techniques.
  • Familiarity with Python and data analysis tools is preferred but not required.
  • Coaching:  The ability to coach and mentor others and promote knowledge growth in the team.

Role Overview:

As the Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Editor you will provide editorial vision and initiative to advance the organisation’s OSINT capabilities. Your primary role is to act as the organisation’s centre of excellence for OSINT by building the team’s knowledge, supporting investigative journalism and fact-checking efforts across multiple countries, ensuring the quality of developed stories, and producing your own OSINT stories.

Key Responsibilities:

Vision and Strategic Development

  • Lead the development and execution of the OSINT editorial vision and related initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategy and priorities.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance the OSINT strategy to address emerging challenges and opportunities within the field of open-source intelligence.

Knowledge Management and Capacity Building

  • Develop and implement relevant training programmes to equip journalists and staff members with the necessary OSINT skills to meet the demands of investigative work across diverse geographical contexts.
  • Drive innovation in OSINT methodologies, encouraging the adoption of new tools, techniques, and approaches to strengthen investigative and fact-checking capabilities.

Production of OSINT Content

  • Produce high-quality OSINT investigations in accordance with the annual editorial plans, organisational priorities, and in response to current events.
  • Ensure that all OSINT content maintains the highest standards of accuracy, ethics, and editorial excellence.

Investigative Support and Coordination

  • Collaborate with journalist teams on investigative stories, providing expert OSINT support to ensure the timely and high-standard delivery of content.
  • Proactively contribute to editorial planning by identifying opportunities where OSINT can strengthen investigative outputs and fact-checking efforts.

Administrative Accountabilities

  • Adhere to organisational cybersecurity policies and actively cooperate in maintaining secure operations, safeguarding sensitive information, and mitigating risks to the organisation's safety.

  • Language Proficiency: Proficient in Arabic and English, with a deep understanding of cultural nuances within the Arab-speaking region.
  • Experience: Extensive experience as a journalist, with a strong focus on OSINT. Previous experience in managing OSINT efforts, and supporting investigative journalism is required.
