larger context? We have a permanent position available as an intelligence analyst in collection from open sources (OSINT operator).
The Intelligence Section in Trøndelag Police District is looking for a new employee for work tasks within the collection and analysis of information from open sources (OSINT). The position is located at the Joint Unit for Intelligence and Investigation, Intelligence Section, Trondheim Police Station.
We are looking for people who have expertise and commitment in digging up requested information from various open sources, as well as social media. OSINT as a collection discipline is in constant development and a single-source analyst at OSINT must therefore keep up with trends and developments, approaches and opportunities for collection. The person hired will be given primary responsibility for establishing and developing OSINT as a collection method, as well as participating in the daily production of intelligence at the section. The purpose of the collection is to collect information for intelligence purposes or to shed light on an investigation.
As a single-source analyst at OSINT, you will contribute to the collection phase of the intelligence process, and you must be able to compile, analyze and prepare single-source products for further processing in the analysis process.
The intelligence section is sometimes under great pressure and requires the delivery of timely, high-quality information. Together with other collection capacities in the section, you will ensure that the information needs of the police district are met, as well as discover new trends and threats. The section will contribute to collecting information for use throughout the police district, for combating and preventing priority crime areas, with particular emphasis on combating the focus area of criminal networks.
You will work closely in a team with other roles in the intelligence section, and the intelligence section currently consists of the functions of section leader/intelligence leader 2 (EL2), collection manager, main supervisor informant, supervisor informant, single-source analyst, information coordinator, analysis manager and intelligence analysts/multi-source analysts.
The intelligence section also fulfills functions in the emergency planning system for crises and extraordinary events, and you must expect to be at work and respond to information needs often within short deadlines.
Necessary training will be provided and applicants must be willing to undertake further training in the field, both OSINT and analysis. Applicants who have not completed the Police College's online basic education in intelligence (module 1) must expect to complete this within a reasonable time.
Work tasks
- Targeted and systematic collection, processing and assessment of openly available information about people, groups and phenomena; including the internet and social media.
- Producing intelligence reports
- Respond to prioritized intelligence needs.
- Contribute to other relevant work tasks at the section
- Responsibility for professional development of Osint as a retrieval method
- Expert within Osint in the police district who provides advice, guidance and training.
- In the event of crises and extraordinary events, the function will be redeployed and included as critical
professional personnel in the Intelligence Command.
QualificationsMust requirements
- Passed the exam from the police academy
- Experience with obtaining and analyzing information from the police or defense.
- Very good analytical skills.
- Expertise in operating securely and covertly on the internet
- Competence in the use of data and analysis tools when searching the internet
Desirable
- Further education and expertise in OSINT from the Police or the Armed Forces, or relevant education in, for example, the use of open sources/the internet in intelligence or investigation.
- Experience from intelligence, investigation, cyber patrol, or digital policing.
