As a junior OSINT specialist, you are affiliated with a district of the Hague Unit, in your case Leiden-Bollenstreek. Each district consists of several basic teams, a district investigation department and a flex team. You use your knowledge of various public techniques to support basic police work on the street, the investigation and the (digital) specialists within your district. With your knowledge, you are able to find and secure relevant internet data. You have sufficient knowledge in the field of internet protocols and can apply this knowledge. Your focus is on recognizing, collecting, interpreting and analyzing online information. You also have knowledge of the current online forums used by our target group or you want to delve into this. On these online forums, you try to find relevant information for the district with smart search strategies and make it available to your police colleagues. For this purpose, you use various social media and other internet tools and sources. You are able to link online information to geographical data. In consultation with your police colleagues in your district, you respond to the information found and you record your findings in clear reports or official reports.
During your work, you do not lose sight of the intelligence and/or investigative interest and you take into account the legal framework within which the tasks are performed. In a rapidly digitalizing world, it is important that you always use new developments, working methods, procedures, methods and techniques. You work intensively with the police colleagues from your district and provide advice for the implementation practice. In addition, you actively seek connections with other OSINT specialists within Unit The Hague. You are also responsible for transferring knowledge about OSINT within the entire district. You do this in collaboration with colleagues from the various teams of the district who are already working in the digital field. In this way, you contribute to the further development of the police task on the internet.
