Technical OSINT Researcher.
Job Description
What are you going to do?
Providing intelligence teams with large-scale open source intelligence through technical research and analysis. That is your most important task as a Technical OSINT Researcher at the Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) in The Hague. The field of OSINT is developing rapidly and has long since ceased to be just reading the newspaper. The key to optimally using this field lies in finding unique information in an enormous amount of data. In this role, you will become acquainted with the many different substantive subjects that the MIVD deals with. And you will do work that is directly relevant to the security of the Netherlands and our allies every day.
Obtaining, analysing and disseminating information
As a Technical OSINT Researcher, you have highly developed technical skills. With these skills, you will start working for Bureau OSINT. There you will be connected to one or more investigations. Within the investigations, you will coordinate the intelligence questions. You will then look for ways to answer these questions. You do this, for example, by automatically unlocking large amounts of public data. You analyse this data by searching for relevant information. Using self-developed dashboards, you then make this information transparent and usable for the multidisciplinary intelligence process of the MIVD. You do this in accordance with the procedures in a secure manner. Our intelligence teams depend on your information on a daily basis, which must be correct, complete and up-to-date. You are also involved in:
• operationalising proof of concepts within technical development processes;
• developing small-scale applications for intelligence research;
• supporting direct OSINT colleagues in technical research;
• setting up IT infrastructure for the above activities.
Development
Because you work with sensitive information at the MIVD, you cannot discuss the content of your work with friends and family. Fortunately, you can discuss it with colleagues, which is why you build a strong bond with them. This is why there is also a mutual bond within the MIVD. It also ensures that most people stay with the organisation for a long time. Boring? Our work never becomes that. The importance of our work is so great that the organisation is prepared to invest in your development and continuous training.
Who are we looking for?
Your technical skills are highly developed. This allows you to navigate large amounts of data. You are also curious and like to show initiative. Every day, you look for opportunities to answer research questions in new and unique ways. You are also able to clearly communicate your technical analyses to specialists from other disciplines, and to make these analyses useful for intelligence research. You can help direct colleagues with conducting technical research in open sources and with using your analyses. At the MIVD, you work on intelligence that can be of vital importance. This requires a great sense of responsibility. You also have:
• at least a higher professional education (for example: Technical Computer Science, Software Development, Software Engineering, System & Network Engineering or Data Analytics), or a comparable work and thinking level;
• excellent knowledge of one or more programming languages, such as Python, R, Java or C;
• skills in translating information needs into technical solutions;
• experience with developing software in the role of Full Stack Developer;
• affinity with the OSINT domain and the areas of focus of the MIVD;
• good command of the Dutch and English language, both spoken and written.

The Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) organization
The Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) is part of the Ministry of Defence. The service supports the preparation of units and military missions and peace operations. For this purpose, we acquire intelligence and security information worldwide at strategic, tactical and operational level. The MIVD thus plays a crucial role in the decision-making by the military leadership and the political top.
If you work for the MIVD, you do work that really matters. You contribute to protecting Dutch interests and national security. Furthermore, you work in a very dynamic environment. We do everything we can to ensure that you stay up-to-date in your field, for example through training and knowledge exchange with our partner services.
Because you work for the intelligence and security service and deal with sensitive information, you cannot discuss the content of your work with your friends and family. And we all work towards the same goal: the physical and digital security of 17 million Dutch people.
