Job Description

November 8, 2024

What are you going to do?

As a digital specialist, you are the all-round expert in the digital field. You independently perform digital forensic work, you do OSINT research, perform (limited) data analysis and you are always looking for innovative ways to go just that little bit further than we normally do. Within criminal investigations, you do not limit yourself to research on digital data carriers, but also proactively think about other digital investigation options. More and more large datasets are becoming available for the purpose of investigation, from which tactical clues and evidence can be obtained. Within the team, you are the digital expert and the point of contact for other colleagues. In addition, you have contact with other in-depth specialists within the police or outside.

In a rapidly digitalizing world, it is important for a digital specialist to constantly look for new methods, procedures, methods and techniques and to apply these directly in your work. The investigation work is unpredictable; you sometimes work irregular hours and in on-call and weekend shifts. You often work under great pressure with tight deadlines. For example, large amounts of data sometimes have to be investigated in a short time.

Where are you going to work?

As of 1 January 2024, the National Unit will be split into two independent units, each with a specific task. This function has been set up within the National Investigation and Intervention Unit (LO). LO is committed to combating serious and organised crime, terrorism, foreign interference and cybercrime, both nationally and internationally. In addition, LO supports the police throughout the Netherlands with special interventions (DSI) and covert operations.

Within the National Unit for Investigation and Interventions (LO), investigations are conducted in the highest segment. These investigations focus on CTER, excessive violence and the dismantling of criminal power structures. The Department of Specialist Investigation (SO) is the designated partner for the necessary specialist resources and techniques in these investigations.

You will work at Team 10 within the SOC-FINEC domain. The team consists of approximately 20 FTE and is equipped to combat any form of undermining crime. Our location in Driebergen is located directly on the A12 and is easily accessible by public transport or car.

Who are you?

As a digital specialist, you show initiative, identify opportunities and are alert to trends and developments. You contribute proposals and ideas on your own initiative and identify opportunities in the digital field. You take the lead in digital matters within the investigation. Where you do not have the knowledge or expertise yourself, you are not afraid to ask for help from your network of digital experts. You also know how to extract the right information from large amounts of data that is important for the investigation. You can easily explain digitally complex matters to colleagues. You are able to estimate how complex a problem is and what it yields for the investigation and are able to provide advice to colleagues. Because Team 10 works data-driven, the digital specialist has a crucial role in the team and acts and communicates tactfully. You actively seek cooperation and contribute to the common interest. You stimulate, motivate and coach employees to bring their professional competence to a higher level. You provide clear feedback on performance and behavior. In doing so, you make yourself vulnerable and show that you are open to feedback and evaluation from others. You can work under pressure and with tight deadlines.

You also have:

  • HBO work and thinking level*;
  • broad IT knowledge that you know how to translate into police practice;
  • experience in digital investigation;
