OSINT Specialist Cyber IT
Job Description
What are you going to do?
Do you want to make a meaningful contribution to the protection of the safety of the Netherlands and to military missions all over the world with your knowledge and skills? Then you are in the right place at the MIVD!
Within the MIVD, various specialists work together in a geographically broad field of work and in specific research areas. The OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) researchers of the MIVD are part of these specialists. They recognize information needs, translate these into search plans and produce a single source intelligence product based on research in open sources. OSINT is an important part of the intelligence process. It can serve as a starting point for a new investigation, verify or refute information from other sources, discover new angles and act as a connecting factor between the other sensors.
Because the application possibilities of OSINT increase daily, OSINT is one of the fastest growing components within the intelligence domain. In order to keep up with this growth, a number of development tasks are currently taking place within the MIVD in the field of OSINT. As an OSINT Specialist, you are the driving force behind one of these development tasks. With your knowledge and skills, you contribute to the MIVD being able to fully utilize the OSINT domain.
What will you do?
The possibilities of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) are increasing every day and it is important for the MIVD to stay connected to these developments. Optimal use of the cyber domain, making the right data available and developing a suitable IT infrastructure are essential for this.
As an OSINT Specialist, you will look for opportunities to find and make available large amounts of relevant open source information. You will not do this alone, but together with other OSINT researchers with a technical background. Within this group, you have a coordinating role in coordinating activities. Together, you have insight into the information needs of those setting the requirements and you develop software yourself to make the information usable for the intelligence process. This can range from information from classic open sources such as newspapers, but also information from large datasets or from social media.
You will also conduct research to discover new OSINT techniques within the cyber domain and you will contribute to the development of a flexible IT infrastructure (both in terms of hardware and software). Our intelligence teams depend on your information on a daily basis, which must be correct, complete and up-to-date.
You will also be involved in:
- operationalizing proof of concepts within technical development processes;
- developing applications for intelligence research;
- supporting direct OSINT colleagues in technical investigations;
- advising on operational security on the internet.
Who are we looking for?
Your technical skills are highly developed. This allows you to navigate large amounts of data and complex IT infrastructures. Furthermore, you are curious and like to show initiative. Every day, you look for opportunities to answer research questions in new and unique ways. You can help direct colleagues with conducting technical research in open sources and with using your analyses. At the MIVD, you work on intelligence that can be of vital importance. This requires a great sense of responsibility.
You also have:
- at least a completed technical university education (for example: Computer Science, Technical Computer Science, Computer Sciences, Computer Science and Engineering, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence), or a comparable working and thinking level;
- excellent knowledge of one or more programming languages, such as Python, R, Java or C;
- experience in developing software in the role of Full Stack Developer;
- good knowledge of the hardware operation of IT infrastructures;
- affinity with the OSINT domain and the areas of interest of the MIVD;
- good command of the Dutch and English language, both spoken and written.

The Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) organization
The Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) is part of the Ministry of Defence. The service supports the preparation of units and military missions and peace operations. For this purpose, we acquire intelligence and security information worldwide at strategic, tactical and operational level. The MIVD thus plays a crucial role in the decision-making by the military leadership and the political top.
If you work for the MIVD, you do work that really matters. You contribute to protecting Dutch interests and national security. Furthermore, you work in a very dynamic environment. We do everything we can to ensure that you stay up-to-date in your field, for example through training and knowledge exchange with our partner services.
Because you work for the intelligence and security service and deal with sensitive information, you cannot discuss the content of your work with your friends and family. But you can with your colleagues. That is why you build a special bond with them. There is a strong mutual bond that partly ensures that most people stay with the organization for a long time. And we all work towards the same goal: the physical and digital security of 17 million Dutch people.
