Intel Officer Sentinel (f/m/d)

for open source intelligence (OSINT) research in the control center area

The Gelsenkirchen Police Headquarters is a district police authority with around 890 employees, of which around 740 are civil servants and 150 are government employees. In addition, the Gelsenkirchen Police Headquarters is one of ten recruitment and training authorities in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The authority has several properties in the Gelsenkirchen urban area. The main property with the authority management and the directorates is located in the northern district of Buer. The command and situation service includes the operations control center of the Gelsenkirchen police headquarters. An important task of the control center is to receive and process emergency calls from the citizens of the city of Gelsenkirchen. In addition, the operations control center coordinates and supports the operations of all departments of the police headquarters.

The work is carried out in rotating shifts (early, late, night shifts, also on weekends and public holidays and, if necessary, as part of special assignments at different times) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Formal requirements

  • a completed relevant university education (Dipl.-FH or Bachelor) in the field of data science, computer science, statistics or mathematics or
  • a completed relevant university education (Dipl.-FH or Bachelor) in the field of communication/media sciences or
  • a completed relevant university education (Dipl.-FH or Bachelor) and successfully completed further training as an information broker or social media manager or
  • a completed vocational training and successfully completed further training as an information broker or social media manager with relevant professional experience or
  • a completed training as a specialist in media and information services (focus: information and documentation) with relevant professional experience or
  • a completed training as an IT specialist or IT system electronics engineer with relevant professional experience or
  • Government employees who perform corresponding duties on the basis of equivalent skills and at least three years of service experience
  • clean criminal record


Desirable conditions

  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office application programs (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English (at least level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​with proof)

areas of responsibilityThe area of ​​responsibility essentially includes:

  • Conducting research in freely accessible sources on the Internet (OSINT research)
  • Supporting police officers on duty with the aim of creating an increased level of information (personal security) and ensuring professional handling of a wide variety of operational situations
  • Time-critical evaluation and analysis of media on police-relevant topics, creation and publication of content in Intrapol and on the Internet (e.g. public searches) as well as in social networks
  • Editorial support, moderation and evaluation of comments and messages from the police's own social media accounts outside of the press office's regular working hours
  • Participation in the preparation of press releases in consultation with those responsible for the control center / press office
  • Implementation of search measures in accordance with the upcoming amendment to the guidelines for decentralized searches in social networks of the LKA NRW
  • Processing of missions in the eCebius operations control system
